Stephen Gallacher took time out from his European Tour woes recently to officially open Callaway's new Authorised Performance Centre at the blossoming Kingsfield Golf Centre near Linlithgow.

The £1.2 million facility, staffed by trained professionals including Tartan Tour star Colin Gillies and former Ladies European Tour winner Jane Connachan, will enable golfers to benefit from Callaway's state-of-the-art custom fitting technology.

Gallacher, a Callaway Golf Staff pro, added: "This is an outstanding facility and will enable every golfer to have their clubs custom fitted like a tour pro.

"All players, amateur and professional, live for the buzz of hitting a perfectly-struck shot and having your clubs made to suit increases this chance."

Later this year, West Lothian's newest golf course will open at Kingsfield.
The nine-hole course is being built to American PGA standards. Seeding and tree/shrub planting is set to begin shortly and the family-friendly course is scheduled to open in August.

Kingsfield Golf Course - Progress Report

Not a lot happening on the course at the moment although it has weathered well over the very wet winter!!

Contractor due back on site first week in April to commence final cultivation and seeding - hardly seems believable that the course will be playable late summer this year!!

Kingsfield Leisure Sports Connection

Kingsfield Leisure Sports ConnectionKingsfield Golf and Linlithgow Rugby Club (www.linlithgow-rfc.co.uk) are both keen supporters of youth sport.

To help promote and encourage the REDS young rugby players to participate in other sports, Kingsfield Golf Range (www.kingsfieldgolf.com) has sponsored a monthly draw of all youth members – the winners being presented with a Digicard giving them access to free practice balls at the Kingsfield driving range.

The photos show the winners of the first three monthly draws being presented with their Digicards by Linlithgow RFC President Gavin Brown. The players are, from the left, Neil Lockhart (Linlithgow Academy 1st XV), Gary Ballantyne (Linlithgow Academy S2 team) and Andrew Wood (also Linlithgow Academy S2 team).

Unfortunately Robert Arkley of Kingsfield Leisure had to pull out of the photocall at short notice.

Fantastic New Golf Course Taking Shape

Scotland's most exciting new golf course is rapidly taking shape in Linlithgow, as these magnificent aerial photographs (attached) show.

The nine-hole course next to the Kingsfield Golf Driving Range on the eastern outskirts of the town will offer accessible, family-friendly golf for all ages on a pay-as-you-play basis.

A state-of-the-art short-game practice area and putting areas are also under construction, and a three-hole beginner course is planned for the future.

The project is the brainchild of Kingsfield Leisure Managing Director Robert Arkley, whose family have farmed at Kingsfield for five generations.

Demand for golf in a shorter time-frame is increasing exponentially, and Mr Arkley hopes to attract busy people with limited leisure time to his superb quality "half an 18 hole" course.

Almost half a million tonnes of earth have been moved since construction began on the 76 acre site back in August 2007 under the direction of renowned golf course architect Graeme Webster.

At the moment the contours of the course can clearly be seen. Seeding and tree/shrub planting will begin in the spring. The new course is due to open in August this year.

Mr Arkley said: "The new course will perfectly complement our existing driving range and broaden the golfing experience at Kingsfield.

"Our aim is to provide a unique, high-quality golf centre in the heart of Scotland. But as well as attracting experienced golfers we want to inspire young people, mothers and families to try this wonderful game.

"Kingsfield will not be run like a traditional golf club. It will be informal and relaxed - in keeping with our business philosophy."

Duncan Weir, Director of Golf Development at the sport's governing body, the R&A, said: "It is a fact that even in Scotland, where golf courses are plentiful in supply and well spread geographically, the average age of our golfing population is alarmingly high.

"This can be attributed to many factors but, encouragingly, short, purpose-build, junior-friendly facilities such as the Kingsfield Farm project are now beginning to appear."

Top of the Range Golf Course for KINGSFIELD

NEW golf course under construction at Kingsfield is being built to USPGA standards.

The nine-hole course, at Kingsfield, Linlithgow, is due to open next August.

And it's not just the golfers who are being catered for.

The course is being constructed in such a way as to encourage wildlife and birds back into the area.

Although the site is ample for an 18-hole course, Kingsfield owner Robert Arkley wanted to put the emphasis on quality. "This will be one of the most picturesque courses in the country," explained Robert, "and we wanted what we are doing here to reflect our setting.

"The course is being designed to USPGA standards."

Robert is keen to see a new generation of youngsters learn the sport. And the course, which is planned to open next August, will operate on a pay-and-play basis.

Ladies Group enjoy Green Tourism Tour

On a beautiful September afternoon twelve ladies from various Hash House Harriers Clubs based in Scotland and England travelled by train to Linlithgow to take part in a Green Tourism Tour of the Royal Burgh.

The Harritees from Whitley Bay, Newcastle, Strathaven ( East Kilbride) ,Glasgow and Edinburgh chose the convenince of rail travel as it was easy for them to all arrive in the Royal Burgh from their local stations. they were met by a Linlithgow Tour representative at the Star and Garter Hotel which is adjacent to the Train Station. ( see photo and article at www.starandgarterhotel.co.uk/Gallery.html)

They were then transported by customised jeeps to Kingsfield Golf Driving Range for a delicious light lunch in Tee Caddie Coffee Shop.

They then enjoyed a selection of outdoor life leisure pursuits initially with Golf Instruction from PGA Professional Gary Walker and then they tried their skills at the Kingsfield Laser Clays shooting arena. After this they relaxed in the the new Park Bistro patio before embarking on the Victoria provided by LUCS . After a gentle cruise along the Union Canal to the Manse Road Basin the ladies enjoyed and interesting ad-lib tour of the Doo'cot, Royal Terrace Railway tunnel, Sheriff Court Plague , Provosts Lamp, Linlithgow Cross and St.Michaels Statue ( Linlithgow is "kind to straingers" logo).

The evening was finalised with a lovely Dinner in the Star and Garter Hotel before the ladies returned home by Train.

The whole tour was spent with the outdoors in mind and the tour did not bring any traffic congestion to the town or buses blocking off the Linlithgow Cross Area. A great Green Tourism Day was had by all in the Royal Burgh and these 12 ladies are already promoting Linlithgow as a place people MUST visit.

NEW GOLF COURSE COULD SEE WEST LOTHIAN AT FOREFRONT OF SPORT

A new nine-hole golf course at Kingsfield Farm, Linlithgow, could see West Lothian at the forefront of the sport in Scotland. Robert Arkley, of Kingsfield, said the course, which is par-3 each hole, would help develop youngsters and promote golf in the district.
