Mark Playing well again!

King just happy to play again after life-threatening illness!

Mark King, the former Scottish professional matchplay champion, showed that a career-threatening injury has not diminished his ability with a 72 yesterday for four-under-par 140 to lie in third place at the halfway stage of the Gleneagles Scottish PGA Championship.

A steady round over the PGA Centenary Course with two birdies and two bogeys in each half put the 37-year-old from the Kingsfield Golf Centre near Linlithgow in position, but these days he has his golf in perspective.

He suffered broken ribs on holiday three years ago and that was followed a fortnight later by a collapsed lung and then an ulcer. Over a long period in and out of hospital he lost much of his chest muscle.

Golfwise, he has lost some 40 yards off the tee and has developed a swing that makes more use of the hands and less of the torso. "It was a life-threatening illness. I won't ever be the same again and I'm just happy to be able to play golf," he said.
